Freedom of speech prevents the government from censoring or punishing individuals for expressing their opinions, beliefs, or criticism. It safeguards the right to speak freely without fear of retribution, thereby promoting open discourse and debate in society. This principle also restricts the government from interfering with the press, allowing for the dissemination of diverse viewpoints and information. Ultimately, it protects individuals' rights to advocate for change and hold authorities accountable.

The rights called freedoms mostly deal with the liberties that all are entitled to. These are five liberties, such as freedom of speech, freedom to assemble, freedom of the press, and the right to speak up if you feel the government is doing something wrong.
Free speech is the freedom to say what you want and express your self how you want as long as what you are doing isn't depriving someone of their rights (see first amendment).deprived - taken away

The Sedition Act, enacted in 1798, prohibited citizens from criticizing the federal government, including its officials and policies. It aimed to prevent dissent and limit freedom of speech by making it a crime to publish false, scandalous, or malicious writings against the government. This restrictive measure was intended to maintain national security and unity during a time of political tension but was widely criticized for infringing on individual rights and liberties.

constitution gives people a sense of authority as they gain rights and freedoms. freedom of speech and expression for example allows people to share their ideas and views. however the constitution does not provide unlimited power to people. there are some exceptions such as when people protest violently, government can prevent them from doing so (because they are spreading violence and breaking peace in society) by sometimes using force.
