Mexico is a federal presidential representative republic, which includes the executive in the form of a president and his/her cabinet, as well as governors for each state of the federation; the legislative with a bicameral congress, and the judiciary, with local, state and federal courts.

People elect their government representatives (executive and legislative) through direct popular vote; Mexican citizens who are 18 years old can vote but have to register before the national voting registry (Instituto Nacional Electoral - INE). The legislative elections take place every 3 years, while most executive elections take place every 6 years.
