Commander Anders Behring Breivik had to do what he did to save Norway. Within 10 years Norwegians in Oslo will be minorities in their own country. By doing what he did Knights Templar will rise and take Norway in a new an better direction. Most people won't open their eyes and see what he did, they don't see how the labor party is destroying Norway.

The above is a concise summary of the mindset that drives people like Breivik to commit such crimes. It is a narrowly-drawn view, one which places high value on some sort of fixed view of "purity" (whether cultural, racial, or religious), rejects change, groups people into an "us or them" mentality, disdains the possibility that their viewpoint is in any way in error (or, equally, that any other viewpoint might also be valid), and encourages the "crisis" mindset, where impending doom is inevitable without immediate drastic action.

It also tends to exhibit the idea that the person with said view is somehow "better" or "more gifted" and can see things everyone else has missed. That is, it tends to emphasize the Messiah complex, where the holder is the only one (or one of a very select few) able to truly see the problem, and is uniquely gifted with the ability to address this "problem".

The banal truth is that Breivik's reasoning was purely the age-old anti-immigrant bigotry. Nothing unique or special about him at all. Just another poor excuse for a pathetic human being.
