Formed in 1905 by Governor Samuel Pennypacker to replace the Coal & Iron Police who were actually thugs hired by coal mine owners to control coal miners. Pennypacker wanted an independant law enforcement agency so no place in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania was without proper fair police protection. The agency is still one of the finast in the US.
