Why were the twin towers chosen as a target?

the twin towers were hit because, al-quido were jealous of our freedom. first they hit the pentagon. second they tried to go for the White House, but landed in a corn-field in Pennsylvania. third they hit one of the twin towers, it instantly went up in flames. 29 minutes later at 10:28 a.m. they hit the other twin tower. in 1993, they tried to blow up the twin towers by placing a bomb in the basement parkinglot. it only blew up the parking garage.

The basic factors that motivated and permitted the terrorists to attack the World Trade Center, Pentagon and (unsuccessfully) the United States Capitol on September 11, 2001 included:

1. The establishment of Israel on land which was seen both in terms of Arab ethnic identity and Islamic Sharia law as belonging under Islamic rule on a permanent and up changeable basis. Although Muslim states had allowed Jews to live in them provided they paid a tax known as jizya, they did not allow non-Muslims any right to rule over Muslims as the Jews did in Israel. Consequently, Islamic Sharia law has provisions to call for jihad in the event of violation. Along with the violence used by the Israelis to establish Israel - involving the exodus of large numbers of Palestinians - this made most Arabs extremely angry at the US.
2. The wealth of the puritanical Muslim state of Saudi Arabia from its vast petroleum reserves gave large sums of money to groups wishing to return to the large-scale jihads which Islam was able to wage against the Christian West and Hindu and Buddhist Asia (plus less important religions in Zoroastrianism and Jainism) between 622 and 1683. The belief that Muslims should not be charitable to non-Muslims, which is entrenched in Saudi Arabian culture, led and leads many wealthy sheikhs to donate very large sums of money to terrorist organisations which view all non-Muslims as legitimate targets, especially if they threaten Islam or violate its laws. The US' decision to keep troops in the Arabian Peninsula after the Gulf War was/is viewed as a prime example.
3. In the US government's struggle to undermine the class war which has been continuous in Eurasia and the Americas since the Industrial Revolution, radical Muslim groups, with their belief that atheistic Marxists could legitimately be killed, were an exceptionally effective ally. This was seen clearly during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan after an uprising by mullahs (who were generally wealthy landlords) against the People's Democratic Party of Afghanistan (PDPA) in 1978 and 1979. The result of this alliance with the Muslim Brotherhood was not only the recruitment and training of terrorists such a Osama bin Laden, but also an inability to see the danger in Muslim terrorism, or at least in Sunni Muslim radicalism.
4. Many Middle Eastern Muslims perceived the US as the "Great Satan" or as a world leader in producing nihilistic moral standards, especially in dress and entertainment.

The choice of the Twin Towers as a target was motivated by the fourth of these causes: the Twin Towers were viewed as a symbol of American immorality and materialism, as well as of its immense economic success.

The Twin Towers of New York were a target for terrorists because of how symbolic these towers were to the United States of America and the world. They were sometimes even caled the center of the center of the world.

This is merely my opinion as I make no claims to having inside knowledge of how madmen think. It would seem to me that them being in the so called financial center of the western world, to damage or destroy them would cause chaos in this country. Surprise didn't work. Also their size made them easy to locate for inexperienced pilots. The attacks were intended to terrify the citizenry and cripple our government and our financial base. Again, the attackers underestimated our preplanning and our resiliency. They wanted to cripple the financial economy of the Americans. There is word going through the grapevine that the President was warned on such an attack, but it's heresay thus far and an investigation is in the works. However, America was NOT prepared for this attack and it could have been far worse if the people on that last plane hadn't over-taken the terrorists. The Trade Center rocked the world and left Americans in shock to realize that they could be attacked on native soil. The only other attack in the most past recent history is Pearl Harbor.
