I have shot muzzle loaders since 1974. They are fun to shoot. I've always loved fireworks and muzzleloaders are just another type of fire works. Muzzleloaders are also a way to experience history. You can get the feel of how soldiers had to fight in combat in the 1800's. If you hunt, then there is no purer and simpler form of hunting than just you and 1 shot using open sights. Most modern hunters use 4-wheelers to find their game and a high-powered rifle with scope that shoots out to 300 yards. Even some muzzleloader hunters use scope. I have a squirrel rifle muzzleloader and have shot a few squirrels with it. That takes practise and patience. Modern squirrel hunters usually fire 20 rounds from a semi-automatic. You have to be a good hunter to get a squirrel with 1 shot. Owning a muzzleloader rifle teaches you how to properly care for a gun. Black powder residue is so corrosive that if you don't clean them thoroughly and as soon as you get home, then it will immediately begin to rust. Go to any pawn shop and look at a used muzzleloader and you will usually see a rusted mess. Many gun owners don't worry about how to clean their guns; they may clean them after shooting them or they may not. Black powder does not allow you to be lazy. Fun. Excitment. Skill.
You can, but, why would you?
A 'muzzle loader' is any firearm (or cannon) which does not have a breech mechanism and which is 'charged' (loaded with powder and shot) from the muzzle end of the barrel.

$150+
yes cause you use black powder for a muzzle loader but for a real gun its all in the bullet and the hammer...
A lot of what makes a muzzle loader the best is dependent on the price you want to pay. Ashland Guns inline muzzle loader is called the best by some but comes at a price of over $2500. Others consider the Accura by CVA to be the best at $600.
not sure if this is what you are looking for but a musket is usually smooth bored meaning it has no rifling in the barrel where a muzzle loader can have rifling. A muzzle loader refers to any weapon that is loaded thru the muzzle in a simple definition and it can be either smooth bored like a musket or rifled like a Pennsylvania long rifle or like most modern muzzle loaders are today
