Hmmmm..
I would hope they serve 2 years and 6 months.
Unfortunately this is to often not the case.
I suppose if the case at hands was something of an accident, then with splendid behaviour you might be able to apply for early release after only 1 year.
Usually, a two year sentence means that you are in prison for... two years!
ANSWER
This varies. In the federal system a person sentenced to two years will do very close to all two years. In most State systems such as Missouri, a person sentenced to two years that has no prior convictions is eligible for parole release as soon as they get to prison. Most will do less than 6 months.
This cannot be answered in a general manner - too much is unknown and is dependent on the type of offense, the defendants past record (if any) - etc - etc. The worse the crime and/or the worst the defendants past record, the more time they will likely be sentenced to.
In Florida, those who committed their crimes on or after October 1, 1995 will serve a minimum of 85% of their sentence.
two and a half to three and a half years

You ewill have to serve only two years.
In Michigan, inmates typically serve at least 85% of their sentence for good behavior and participation in rehabilitation programs. Therefore, on a 5-year sentence, an inmate would likely serve around 4 years and 3 months.
In Virginia, inmates typically serve at least 85% of their sentence before becoming eligible for parole. For a 20-year sentence, an inmate would likely serve around 17 years before being considered for parole.
90 days in jail
