yesAn officer can ask for permission. That does not mean you have to give him permission.

If he asks, and you say yes, then he can search, and you cannot then change your mind and say no. Once you say yes, then espect to be searched. However, in a senerio where you may be going into a concert, or some other public event, or public building like a school, a courthouse, or an airport, if an officer asks you if he can search you, and you say no, then he can deny you permission to enter the building.

A warrant gives him the right to search without asking.

Can police search a person without a warrant?

It depends on the circumstance. A police officer cannot randomly search a person for no reason; however, there are many situations in which an officer can search without a warrant. Among those is probable cause and exigent (or emergency) circumstances. An officer, also, has the ability to do an outer-clothing patdown if they have reasonable suspicion that an individual is armed (Terry v. Ohio, Terry Stop, or Stop and Frisk). An officer, also, has the ability to conduct a search of the suspect after an arrest has been made (Search Incident to Lawful Arrest).
