You go to jail AND pay a hefty fine UNLESS somehow the statute of limitations causes the charge(s) to be dropped. A quick call to a criminal lawyer will tell you what you need to know.

Added: Are you certain it was a warrant, or just a summons to appear in court? This may be an effort by a credit scavenger agency to collect the debt 'after-the-fact.' As referred to above, it seems highly unlikely that a 'bad check' charge would still be legally valid after this length of time. Look into this "warrant" carefully.

Can you get bail money if you have a warrant but haven't been arrested yet?

You can get bail only if you have been arrested and arraigned or the judge who issued the arrest warrant set bail when the warrant was issued (however, arrest is still a prerequisite for making bail).

Will they issue a warrant for bad checks?

Bad checks are a crime and yes, they can get a warrant. Depending on the circumstances they are not likely to make arrests or go that far. They want their money, not you in jail. They can absolutely arrest you in Montana. Their records are slow, and if you accidently write a check which bounces, they will arrest you and/or put a warrant out for your arrest. It happened to me, I bounced a check to the supermarket for $40. I cleared it up but they have paper records there, and they arrested me and put my "bail" at $100.

Can you go to jail for a warrant in debt?

A warrant in debt is not an arrest warrant: it generally is a judgment against you and a notice that you are in debt to another person or an entity. You can never go to jail just for owing money to anyone or anyplace else, unless the debt was the result of a crime committed, such as a bad check.

Will customs arrest you for a misdemeanor traffic warrant?

Before a Customs agent would make an arrest for a warrant of any type, the agent would have to believe the agency holding the warrant would come to the port of entry where the arrest was made to pick up the person with the warrant. If the agency is adjacent to the port of entry (e.g. a San Diego warrant in San Ysidro), this is likely. If the agency holding the warrant was distant to the port of entry, it's unlikely they will expend the time and money to fetch someone with a misdemeanor warrant.

How do you find out if you have a bench warrant for your arrest without spending any money?

If you go into the police station to pay on a arrest warrant Will they arrest you after the money is paid?

Laws vary from state to state and you need to check with your local jurisdiction. Here is the answer for California. When a warrant is issued there is a BAIL amount. Bail can be set by the judge or it can be from a bail schedule. The bail amount is NOT the FINE for the offense, though sometimes bail can be forfieted to the fine when the matter is settled. Technically a warrant is a order by a judge, ordering a peace officer to make an arrest. If you go to a police station and let then know there is a warrant for your arrest, they MUST arrest you. If you take enough cash with you to the station you can then bail yourself out. The arrest and paying the bail cancels the warrant but does NOT settle the matter. When you bail yourself out you will be scheduled with a court date and still MUST go to court to settle the matter, unless it is the type of matter where the bail amount is used to settle the case. Of course the matter can be settled without an arrest by going to court and settling the matter and paying the fine.

Do you have to be arrested if you did not go to court on the date assigned and you have a warrant out for your arrest but you have the money now?

Here's some advice: Contact the Clerk of The Court that issued the bench warrant. Advise them that you are aware of the bench warrant, but that you now have the money to pay the fine. Ask them if the court would consider withdrawing the warrant if you came in voluntarily and paid the fine amount. I have known of this to happen.

If you have 2 warrants for your arrest and pay them wiil they be lifted?

Arrest warrants don't go away when they're "paid." An arrest warrant is an order by a judge for a defendant to be arrested and brough before the judge to answer charges. If the charges involve money owed then bail is often set to that amount.

Warrant in Colorado but live in California Can I be arrested in California?

A warrant for your arrest? Probably not. To be clear, convicts are not allowed to visit other convicts. Thus, you must be convicted of a crime. If you are arrested and not convicted, then everything is alright.

Is there only on type of warrant?

A warrant is an order given by an authorized official for a specific duty to be carried out. Your unemployment check, or other state check is a warrant (look at one carefully in Florida), because it is issued by the state's Comptroller, and it orders that a specific amount of money be paid to the payee on the check (Warrant). By the same token, there are several types of warrant, and the most common type are those issued by judges. They are either search warrants, ordering the police to search a home, car, or other structure that would otherwise not be allowed to be entered by anyone not authorized to do so, or they are warrants known as capii (pural for capias), which are warrants for a person's arrest and to be brought to court to answer any charges or other reasons for which the capias was issued. Examples of capii are: arrest warrants, which order police to arrest and charge someone with a new crime; VOP warrants to arrest someone for violation of probation; bench warrants, which is signed from the judge's bench, normally for failure to appear in court or contempt of court (witnesses who don't appear for example), and a writ of bodily attachment, which is issued for a person not charged with a crime, but fails to appear as a defendant for a civil case or a witness for a civil case.

Worthless check now there is a warrant for your arrest?

AKA, Check Fraud. Someone wrote a bogus check - the money was not in the bank when the check was written. A check is a written guaranteed promissory note (IOU) signed by the issuer stating that funds are available to the person to whom the check is issued that upon demand (deposit) of the bank, they will be paid accordingly. When that promise is broken - a legal matter - the issuer can be arrested and be ordered to make good on the check or face jail time.
