Technically, there is a federal law which prohibits anyone from aiding or abetting a known illegal alien. I believe the law dates back to the 1950s. However, there is no instance in which that law was ever enforced with respect to simply allowing a friend or family member to live with you. Consequently, it would be difficult for the federal government to begin enforcing that law, since defendants would argue selective enforcement.

However, some recent state laws (notably the Alabama law taking effect September 1, 2011) make it a misdemeanor under state law to provide shelter to anyone when you know his or her presence in the United States is illegal.

Yes, illegal aliens are foreigners illegally coming into the United States. If you hire one you are breaking the law.

If you are a legal entity such as a business,corporation,institution or any other facility then you can not legally hire illegal aliens,employers must verify the identities of their employees....

However there are exceptions,such as if you are a private citizen and not doing business under your name or a company name and you hire 5 people to clean off your fence line,help you load a moving truck,rake your lawn or some other menial task and agree to pay them a specified sum then you are not required to verify their identiy,just as you are not required to pay a minimum wage,carry workers comp insurance,pay pay-roll taxes,or withhold federal/state taxes from their wages...Same applies if you hire five 11 year old boys to shovel snow,rake leaves,stack wood,mow your lawn ect...they are legally not allowed to be employed by a legal entity since they are not old enough to acquire working papers from the State,but they can be hired by private citizens....

It depends on what country you're in. In the UK, an employer can be fined up to £25,000 for each illegal immigrant they employ. It's up to the employer to check whether a person is legally entitled to work.

No. Current law (Federal and State) does not preclude an illegal immigrant from renting a place. Apartment managers are not required to request documentation of legal status. For example... suppose you have a person enter the US legally and decide to rent an apartment for a few months. Is he here legally? Yes, he has a visa. However, that same person over stays his visa and remains here for several years... working. Is he here illegally? YES. Is there a law that denies him a right to rent an apartment? NO. Apartment managers are not bound by any law to ask for any documentation of residency or citizenship. If there has been a recent change to this in any state then I am not aware of it.
