Positive law, while essential for maintaining order and governance within a society, comes with certain disadvantages. One significant drawback is its rigidity, as it can be slow to adapt to evolving societal norms and needs, requiring time-consuming legislative processes for amendments. Additionally, positive law may not always reflect moral or ethical values, potentially leading to laws that are perceived as unjust or lacking in moral grounding. This inflexibility in addressing unjust provisions can be a challenge. The complex legislative and bureaucratic structures associated with positive law can make it difficult to understand and navigate, sometimes resulting in confusion. Furthermore, inconsistencies within the legal framework, difficulties in enforcing laws consistently, potential abuse of power, and the risk of prioritizing legal technicalities over justice are among the other disadvantages associated with positive law. Overall, while positive law plays a crucial role in governance, addressing these disadvantages requires careful consideration and balancing of legal principles with societal needs and values.

Some disadvantages of positive law include the potential for unjust or oppressive laws to be enforced, the rigidity of legal systems that may not adapt quickly to changing societal values, and the reliance on governmental authority to create and enforce laws, which can lead to abuses of power.

Law is a system of rules and procedures made for the purpose of maintaining order and to protect harm to persons and property.Laws are not bad all the time. Law provides justice to the human being. Although the law restricts personal freedom, time consuming, difficult to administer and enforce. It is really difficult to live without laws. There would be no way to enforce our contracts, regulate the way people drive, trust the safety of our foods and drugs, or protect us from our neighbor's dog. If the law made violates the persons right or liberty, a person can always approach the court for proper remedy.
Hence you can find only few disadvantages compared to the advantages of law.

What are examples of positive laws?

Positive law is the same thing as human law. So any type of law that is promulgated by the states/government is a positive law. For example, the speed limit is a positive law. Laws against murder are also positive laws, but they are based on the Natural Law. All positive laws should be based on the Natural Law, but they are not. The laws on abortion, for example, are contrary to the Natural Law; however, the laws on abortion are positive laws.
