You can attempt to collect payment again by redepositing the check at your own bank or requesting exchange for a cashier's check at the drawee bank. You can also file a lawsuit asking the court to compel the maker to pay you. Depending on the amount of the check, you may be able to do this without a lawyer in small claims court.
Knowingly giving a check without sufficient funds is a crime. Though criminal intent may be difficult to prove. Other penalties may be your bank's NSF fee as well as the merchant's fee for bad check. Some states will give the aggrieved party up to 3 times the amount of the check plus court costs. If you can, ask your bank for an overdraft protection account or an overdraft privelege.

No
an NSF cheque is often called a "bounced" cheque
no they can not
If the check was to pay for an item (generally property like a car) you have alien or such against...an NSF check by itself is not a secured debt.
No. If the NSF fund and amount of check is paid, then charging someone an additional $170.00 that they do not have is only aggravating their already troubled situation.
No they cannot. The check can only be honored with funds from the account it was written on.

Unfortunately for you, it is the BANK that declares a check NSF, not the merchant. The merchant MAY have submitted it early in error, or simply didn't care. Technically and legally, you should not have written it knowing there was not enough money to cover it, but you relied on the merchant's alleged suggestion and it's really the merchant with whom you have the beef. ... just don't expect any satisfaction from them.
It means that there was not enough money in the account to cover the check. Non Sufficient Funds.
non sufficient funds not enough money to cover the posted check when presented to cashing agent
It went NSF and your down payment is not paid. You will likely incur extra charges as well for the NSF not only from the bank but from whomever the down payment was for.
Yes/No, NSF checks are criminal offence in some countries, as the person issuing the check, knowing that there are no funds on the account to cover this payment, is abusing the rights of the person who needs the payment. Please make sure you don't issue the NSF checks. Best. Eugene
