Best Answer

Yes.

I'm curious about the age of the person asking the question? Shoplifting is stealing property belonging to another. Why would anyone ask that question without having the common sense to know the answer?

Shoplifting is illegal because it involves taking goods without paying for them, which is considered theft. It is against the law because it results in financial losses for businesses and can lead to increased prices for consumers to offset those losses. Additionally, shoplifting undermines the integrity of our legal and economic systems.

Primarily because there's a statute (a written law) that says stealing is illegal. Technically, without this written statute, an individual could take whatever they want.

It's also known that Americans, and people of most countries, have the right to "Life, Liberty, and Property". Depriving someone of that property is violating a personal right.
