There wasn't.
My versionSince the first city state the prosperity of the rich has depended on cheap and dependable labour. In the early days of the USA for example, the use of slaves lowered the cost of farming to the point that the landholders could make a profit.
People who did not own slaves could not financially compete and thus could not become more wealthy.
So the need was driven by the financial need to make a profit.
UNTIL the whole economy had to stop the use of slaves at once, the fact that it was legal and your business would not be viable made the "NEED". Once everyone can not own slaves then the NEED goes away.
Landowners justified owning slaves by claiming that it was necessary for the economy and their way of life. They argued that slaves were inferior and in need of their guidance, and that it was their duty to provide for and protect them. They also used religious and philosophical arguments to support the idea that slavery was justified and natural.
The Spanish needed slaves for labor in industries such as agriculture, mining, and construction. Slaves were also used to support the growing economy of the Spanish colonies by providing cheap and abundant workforce.
William Still helped slaves escape because he believed in the abolition of slavery and was passionate about assisting individuals seeking freedom. As a station master on the Underground Railroad, he felt a moral imperative to help those in need and played a crucial role in aiding fugitive slaves in their quest for liberty. His commitment to social justice and equality fueled his efforts to support and guide escaping slaves to safety.
Runaway slaves needed a plan, help from allies or a network (such as the Underground Railroad), knowledge of the terrain, disguises, forged papers or passes, and determination to navigate obstacles and evade capture.
Slaves get their names from their slave holders, they do this so they do not need to remember their unusual surnames or they just do it for racism. Edited by Crocidile_Lover17 because the guy who answered this has bad grammar

Rich people do not "need" slaves. Historically, some wealthy individuals may have used slaves for economic and social gain, but this practice is unethical and illegal in most modern societies. Owning slaves goes against basic human rights and principles of equality.
The whole slavery thing was for economic reasons. some needed slaves to work on their plantation, some needed slaves to work at home as servants, and other needed slaves to serve in armies. Remember slaves were an unpaid labor force.
A large proportion of the Holocaust victims were slaves. If you are meaning to compare to American slaves; you need to know that American slaves though treated poorly were actually treated better than most slaves in history, including people who were slaves under Nazi Germany.
