oral tradition is important in all societies despite of the reliance of some culture on written records and accounts.oral tradition are highly structured and are recording and passing on experience which oral tradition can carry from person to person variation are also open to contradiction in the same ways that written account are in this way, the force of oral tradition can continue through generation to generation although small details in the telling may change. oral history cannot be seen as merely something that we turn to when written records are not available very often issues of local knowledge of agrarian traditions.

Oral tradition, while an important part of many cultures, is less reliable than the written word. It is often subjective and reflects the opinion of the storyteller. It can be compared to the children's game of *telephone* where you have a large circle of people and the first person tells the second person something, then the second person tells the third person the same thing until you get to the last person. By that time, the original message was probably changed drastically so that it ends up being totally different.
