There are no characteristics that are typical of the modern German people.

On an isolated island or in inaccessible jungle the ancient characteristics would very much retained.

But in a country that is surrounded with other peoples it is inevitable that mixed breeding takes place. That which some early 20th century scholars named an "apartheid state" (meaning the legacy of the German Empire and the attitudes in Weimar Republic , slowed down but could not prevent the intermingling of different nationalities and the mixing of the genetic fingerprint of the Germans over a period of centuries..

One must also remember the size and fluctuations of the German borders have varied greatly over the centuries, it is now only a small portion of what it was as "The German Empire".

The people in southern states of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg are slightly Mediterranean in their traits where the people in the north of the states of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Schleswig-Holstein show a slight Scandinavian influence.
