The Taiwanese flag is also referred to as Blue Sky, White Sun and a wholly red earth (青天, 白日, 滿地紅 / Qing Tian, Bai Ri, Man Di Hong).

The twelve "rays" of the sun on the flag symbolises the twelve months and the twelve Chinese hours (時辰 / shi chen). Each Chinese hour represents two modern hours.

Overall, the three colours on the Taiwanese flags represents the 'The Three Principles of the People':

Red or red earth was added by Sun Yat-sen to reprsent the people's livelihood and fraternity. It was to represent the blood of the people who sacrificed their lives to overthrow the Qing Dynasty and create Taiwan aka the Republic of China.

White is a representation of democracy and equality.

And, Blue represents nationalism and liberty.
