The hamlet of Somadino in the Casargo municipality of the Lecco province of the north Italian region of Lombardy is the origin of the Italian name Somaini, as Somadini (with the "d" dropping over time), "inhabitants of Somadino." The Taroni website on Italy's Vecchie Famiglie ("Old Families") offers two paragraphs on the family's north Italian appearances from the 13th century onward. Nowadays, the family still tends to call home the cities of Como and Varese in Lombardy, followed by mere sprinklings in Emilia-Romagna at Bologna and Modena, in Lazio at Rome, in Liguria, in the Piedmont at Alessandria and in Toscana, Trentino and Veneto.
