Generally, you would use was with I, such as in the phrase 'I was at school'. In this case, using 'were' would be wrong. However, there's something called the subjunctive mood, which means that you would use 'were' instead of 'was'. You use the subjunctive when you're talking about a possibility, a desire, or a doubt, and in some other circumstances too. So in the example you gave, 'If I were to go with you' would be correct. However, the use of the subjunctive is becoming less popular in Modern English, and in spoken English, you're highly unlikely to be corrected for failing to use the subjunctive, and few people would notice. Some people consider not using it to be incorrect in formal written English though.

Pidgin uses less memory, starts and quits faster. Just more light weight all around, and is superb if all you wanna do is chat. I've found Trillian to have better features. For instance, using the AIM protocol the profiles looks exactly like they do on AIM, not so much with Pidgin. In general, it just feels more polished. It does use much more computer resource then Pidgin, however. So in short. Pidgin if all you do is chat and send files. Pidgin if your looking to use many features on all of the protocols

Pidgin is word meaning a kind of language where the vocabulary of one language is overlaid on the grammar of another. It is not a single language but a type of language. Pidgins arise where speakers of one language are obliged to deal with speakers of another language, and communicate using a hybridized version of both. Eventually the newly-created language takes on a shape of its own and starts developing its own rules, becoming a new and separate language. Pidgins have arisen on every continent of the world, but like all languages with few speakers, are being driven to extinction by dominant languages, especially English. English itself owes its present form to a certain amount of pidginization, since the grammatical rules of Old English were simplified to accommodate Norse and Norman French speakers, while absorbing the vocabulary of those two languages. "Pidgin English" derives from the 19th Century Chinese attempt to pronounce the English word "business." It is work-place dialect, made of simplified English vocabulary and simplified Chinese grammar, that arose during the China Trade for use between the European management and the Chinese laborers. No one speaks pidgin English at home.
