The writing was called Heiroglyphics. Heiroglyphics were pictures and symbols for letters. The meaning of Heiroglyphics were found because of the Rosetta Stone. The Rosetta Stone had the Egyptian alphabet and the translation of it in greek. Since scientists had already decoded greek language, they were able to decode heiroglyphics.
