Well there are many opinions about that. But if you think about it, just think then there was a "new and "old" world. Europe had language and Native Americans had a language. That's 2 already. If there is more than 2, then conflicts will start to agree upon a language. Eventually more language was created to distinguish a country, then it expanded. It would be impossible to come up with 1 language now, since there are hundreds on languages and people will debate about it. It wouldn't be fair anyway to people who has to learn another language.
