Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964 for his work towards ending racial segregation and racial discrimination through civil disobedience and other non-violent means.

Dr. King is remembered for the important role he played in the advancement of civil rights in the United States. He was a Baptist minister who helped organise the Montgomery Bus Boycott and the Southern Cristian Leadership Conference. Following the teachings of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, Dr. King promoted non-violent means to oppose segregation and discrimination. He is most famous for his "I Have a Dream" speech, delivered during the 1963 March on Washington.
