It really depends on what type of cab you get as to how much it can fit. The cabbies themselves aren't going to set a limit. When you get off the plane at JFK, there are taxi lines just outside the baggage claim areas. There is a mix of minivans and regular cars in these. All the cabs from JFK to other major areas are a flat rate if you get in this line, so just use it and grab a minivan if you have a large amount. As long as you don't have more than you can pack in a minivan, you should be fine. If it isn't too much, you can grab a regular car and throw it all in the trunk. If you have a ton of stuff, and your cabbie helps you with it, don't forget to give him a good tip!
