All living creatures are 'special' as they all have a unique niche. Possums, which are extremely common in Australia (and not to be confused with opossums), have a niche in their native bushland, but they are certainly not considered special in New Zaland, where they have been introduced. There, the possum has succeedede in destroying untold amounts of native vegetation, and with it, destroyed the habitat of native creatures.
