There are many different breeds of domestic rabbits, and approximatly eleven of these breeds(American Rabbit Breeders Association Breeds)(A.K.A the only actually purebred breeds of rabbits in the United States) can come in an albino coloring. This is usually refered to as REW or Ruby-eyed white. Some of these breeds are meat rabbits, but many are not. The color doesn't necessarily go with the purpose of the rabbit. The Giant Angora is a large rabbit that is only REW but is used for its wool production not meat. The New Zealand normally comes in REW (but can come in Black and Red) and is probably the meat rabbit you are refering to. There are many rabbits that are from 2-6 pounds, come in REW coloring, and are not meat(market) rabbits. Altogether, an REW or Albino rabbit is Not necessarily a meat rabbit, but Can be.

New Zealand Rabbits DO NOT come in the variety REW. They are White, Red and Black. New Zealand White and Californian breeds are your MOST popular meat type rabbits but there are many others that could be meat rabbits: White Satins, Californian Satins, White and Californian Rex, White Flemish Giants, etc. All of these have Red Eyes (albino). White is the most popular variety (color) for meat rabbits because of the color of the pelt. White pelts can be dyed any color and white hair does not show up on the carcass like black or other colors will. Basically, any rabbit that reaches 5# weight by 10 weeks of age is considered a meat rabbit no matter what the variety (color) is. REW is a variety only. There are other considerations that make the New Zealand White and Californian your preferred meat rabbit. One of them is the small bone amount to large meat amount percentage that these breeds offer.
