They are ok ponies, but Connemaras or icelandics are good for a child of young age.
Well, most breeds are good jumpers. Except for the HUGE bulky horses. Just make sure it has no muscle or joint problems, and good conformation. Usually Thouroghbreeds, or hunters. Some warmbloods. Welsh ponies, haflingers, and pretty much anything.
It can be, but it would be better to feed a pellet designed for ponies in general.

Dartmoor Ponies are the best for children!

There were a number of breeds that arrived with the First Fleet. They included Arab, Cape of Good Hope horses, English thoroughbreds, Mountain ponies, and Timor horses. From these were eventually bred the famous Whaler, known for their role with the Australian Lighthorse Brigade.
The Connemara is an attractive, sturdy and intelligent breed. They're generally large ponies, so are fine for a moderate sized adult. As with all breeds, each individual is different, but I do think the right Connemara would be fine for a beginner.
