Yes.
Most animals can be a good companion to their people. But people seems to relate the best with their fellow mammals. That's why there are so many dogs, cats, horses and goats in the world.
Certainly. Of course, it depends on the animal, but if you get a good horse you will definitely get both. People who say horseback riding is not a sport or not excersise have obviously never ridden a horse, as riding takes as much skill as mastering the piano, and is as excersising as basketball. As for companionship, (which is what I'm guessing you meant), if you treat it right a horse is every bit as sensitive to your feelings and as loyal as a dog.
Approximately 40% of horses in the US are owned for personal pleasure use, such as riding, showing, or companionship. The remaining horses are used for various purposes, including racing, breeding, and work.

Yes horses can be excellent companions. Although it does depend on the horse. Some are like real pets and follow you around, others really don't seem to have emotion, but I only know a few who aren't good pets.
some horse owners do not know and some are aware of what is happening to their horses.
The horses are owned for transport, or in other countries for food.
The number of horses an owner usually owns varies widely based on individual preferences and needs. Some horse owners may have only one horse for companionship or recreational riding, while others may have multiple horses for breeding, showing, or competitive riding. Ultimately, the number of horses owned depends on the owner's resources, experience, and goals.
The horses carry loads to wherever their owners want them to.
They can kick their owners, fight w/ the other horses, injurse people, etc.
