Kidding aside sound travels better at frigid temperatures- the speed ( Mach Factor I- 760 Miles per Hour at sea level) is the same- as this is Mach"s Constant. -but the reception is clearer over a longer distance. A few years ago I could hear some Church bells on Central avenue on a cold December day- almost a mile from their point of Origin. Also one gets better photographs in the winter as there is no ( Ground clutter)- vegetation has faded, and one can see further, and the atmosphere is more stable - also cold inhibits motion so one has a smooth let-off minimizing camera shake. all of this could apply to the Polar Bear.
