Can you eat amoxicillin prescribed for a dog?

The active ingredient amoxicillin can be administered to both dogs and humans, and often is for simple skin and ear infections. However, the drugs are not the same - the inactive or carrier ingredients are different and the concentration of the drug within the medicine is also often different.

Yes. But dosage and whether or not to give the drug and how much depends on the dog's size, weight and the dog's diagnosis. If it isn't the right drug, you can make things worse by making the infection more drug resistant.

Legally, no - you cannot divert a prescription drug from the prescribed patient. Medically this is also a bad idea for the dog - he was prescribed the amoxicillin for a reason and he needs to take every dose. Third, this could have serious repercussions for you - you may have an unknown allergy to the drug, the infection you are trying to self-treat may not respond to amoxicillin, you could get the dose very wrong (dogs and humans are treated with two completely different dosing rates) and you could make yourself very sick or even die.

Depending upon the formulation, it is possible. However, dogs are not dosed at the same level and frequency as humans and in many cases are given a different formulation than humans.

Also, antibiotics such as amoxicillin are prescription drugs - they are only to be taken by the patient they are prescribed for and only at the recommended doseages. To do anything else is illegal drug diversion and could be a felony.

One tablet will probably be fine. I have been given amoxycillin from my vet for my dogs. So I think One and ONLY one tablet will be good.
