If you have access to a coil tester, spark plug should fire steadily at the 1.5 setting on the current knob. To test continuity of the coil: Primary test; connect a test lead to one side of the coil and the other lead to the other side of the coil. Readings shold be between 3.5 to 5.5 ohms. If readings are high or low, replace the coil. Secondary test; remove plug wires from plug and place test leads on plug wires. Readings should be between 68 minimum and 78 ohms maximum. If readings are high or low replace coil. There should never be continuity between the primary and secondary windings. This information is taken from the JD 400 service manual. On a side note, my secondary reading from my tractor is only 40 ohms. Primary was 4.1. The tractor runs great.

How do you hook up a 6 volt positive ground ignition coil on a 1949 ford tractor?

To hook up a 6-volt positive ground ignition coil on a 1949 Ford tractor, first ensure the tractor's battery is disconnected. Connect the positive terminal of the coil to the ignition switch, and the negative terminal to the distributor. Make sure the battery's positive terminal is connected to the chassis ground, as the system operates on positive ground. Finally, reconnect the battery and check for proper spark when cranking the engine.

How do you test fire an ignition coil?

You test an ignition coil by checking the resistance with an ohm meter. The resistance values should be something like, Primary winding .3 to 1 ohms, Secondary winding 8,000 to 11,500 ohms.

Is an ignition module the same as a ignition coil?

No. The coil provides the spark and the module tells the coil when to spark.

You have no power to the coil on a 94 Plymouth sundance What is wrong?

If there is no power to the ignition coil on a 1994 Plymouth Sundance, the issue could be due to a faulty ignition switch, a blown fuse, or a problem with the wiring harness. It's also possible that the coil itself is defective or that there's an issue with the engine control module (ECM) not sending the signal to activate the coil. Checking the voltage at the coil, inspecting the fuses, and testing the ignition switch can help diagnose the problem.

Where do the wires connect to from the ignition coil on john deere 214 mower?

On a John Deere 214 mower, the ignition coil typically has two primary connections: one wire connects to the spark plug, while the other connects to the ignition module or the mower's electrical system. The spark plug wire delivers the spark necessary to ignite the fuel-air mixture in the engine. It's important to consult the mower's service manual for specific wiring diagrams to ensure proper connections.

Why is the procedure for checking the resistance of a waste spark ignition coil different from the procedure for checking other types of ignition coils?

The procedure for checking the resistance of a waste spark ignition coil differs because waste spark coils fire two cylinders simultaneously, using one coil for two spark plugs. This design requires measuring the resistance of the primary and secondary windings in a specific way to account for the dual spark plug system. Additionally, the resistance values may vary between the terminals due to the shared nature of the coil, necessitating a tailored approach to ensure accurate diagnostics. In contrast, other ignition coils typically service a single cylinder and have different resistance expectations and testing methods.
