It all depends on the horse. I wouldn't look for a specific breed, more the horse that you want. :D Quarter Horses and QH crosses are generally used.
They just aren't built for it. Quarter horses have the ideal barrel racing conformation, with their well defined hindquarters, they are able to jump into a run from the starting gate and turn on a dime. Arabians are not built much like quarter horses. They can be good starter barrel horses, but if you want to go to the higher levels you need a horse with the build of a quarter horse.
Quarter horses do tend to be the best for barrel racing but Arabians are deferentially not suited for it. You can really use any horse for barrel racing but it is SUPER IMPORTANT that you make sure they have the right body build and athletic abilities to preform the task. Arabians typically don't fit the needs. I am a barrel racer myself so please take this advice.
Quarter horseor most horses that are bred from America
They were great war horses because they had amazing stamina
Some do, it depends on the horse and how good the trainer is. However, the best barrel racing hoorses are probably Quarter Horses --------------------------------------------------- it is actually called a standardbred. ANd yes, they can barrel race, some better than others but this breed is known for its versitility
no they are not
I have trained a few barrel horses in my day and i have found that the best barrel horses are the lighter breeds. I had an Arabian chincotogue cross that was an amazing barrel racer. Usually a horse that is shorter backed can make it around the barrels quicker than a long bodied horse. Horses with fine long legs cover ground more quickly. I usually go for a more narrow chested and less stocky horse for barrel racing, due to the horse having less mass to have to move quickly. Arabians and Arabian crosses have always done well for me in contesting due to their sure-footed, light bodied, high stamina, high energy level, and they are intelligant. Though most horses ive met no matter the breed are smart. But in a nutshell a shorter bodied horse with good legs and high energy level would be a good barrel prospect. Hope this helps some.
The only way math could be involved in barrel racing is if you look at it using physics.
Depends greatly on bloodline, area, age, looks, and what they're potentially good for (barrel racing, roping, showing).
because Quarter hoses have muscular hind ends witch makes it good for barrel racing and western riding
Arabians are generally good war horses as they are athletic and graceful and don't need much care as they originated from the dessert where there isn't much water indeed. Arabians are good war horses because they are easy to tame and can do tricks. They are also used in movies because they can be taught tricks Hope that helped!
There are many horses that do very well in barrel racing. many people use quarter horses or paints, i have also seen many appys. I personaly have done barrel racing with a pinto and a mustang and both did very well. you just need a horse that is fast and can turn fast.
