Easiest answer, no humans can't sleep upside down for extended periods of time. Hanging upside down can cause blood clots, especially in the brain. We are designed as upright, bi-pedal animals. Gravity plays a significant role in blood being pumped to our extremities. Also gravity helps remove the blood from the brain and return it to the heart. A person can go for extended periods of time in low or zero gravity, however they are specially trained, and wear special g-suits. The effects of near zero gravity have not been studied in depth. However what we do know is that extended times in near zero gravity can cause very serious problems, including but not limited to, muscle wasting, circulation problems, blood clots, and cardiovascular problems. Several people have tried stunts involving hanging upside down for extended periods but they were examined by doctors every hour, while standing up!
