In the UK rabbits need injections to keep them safe from 2 diseases.

This is not jsut to let them on grass, it should be done no matter what... for every rabbit.

These injections are for

i. VHD Viral Hemorrhagic Disease

This is a fairly new sickness to the UK, another man made virus which was engineered to cull rabbits and has unfortunately spread to the domestic rabbit population as well. This is a particularly nasty illness where the rabbit dies by hemorrhaging blood from every organ etc.

ii. Myxomatosis (Myxi)

This was introduced to the UK to cull the wild rabbit population and quickly spread to the domestic rabbits.

This is very infectious viral condition and once a bunny has contracted myxi there is no cure or treatment.

----

The best way to deal with any sickness in your rabbit is to make a vet appointment as soon as you can. internet research can never replace the advice of a vet who has examined your animal.

What living things do rabbits eat?

Rabbits are herbivores. The only living thing rabbits eat are plants. See the related question below for more details about what rabbits eat.Other AnswersSome female rabbits will need to eat meat before they have babies because they need the protein and if they don't get it they will eat their babies.I've never heard of that before. It is definitely not recommended to feed your rabbit meat, ever, even pregnant rabbits. Rabbits are herbivores and can't digest meat properly.

Can you give long ear rabbits baths?

The following is true for long-eared rabbits and all rabbits: No, rabbits do not need baths and generally find them very stressful. If aboslutley necessary it is better to just give it a "spot cleaning" of the area that is dirty. Healthy rabbits clean themselves, so if your rabbit is dirty, something is wrong and you may need to see the vet. If you need to give a bath, you should follow certain precautions to keep it safe. See the related question below for details and links.

Can rabbits eat grass?

Yes, it helps their digestive system. Pet rabbits can eat grass as a treat but more importantly they should eat lots and lots of grass hay (dried grass available in pet stores and feed stores). Rabbits need hay to help keep their teeth nice and short (their teeth grow their entire lives). Wild rabbits eat a lot of woody materials like branches and twigs, and they have to chew through thick fibrous materials like roots when they make their burrows, so their teeth stay worn down naturally; but pet rabbits don't have these things, which is why you need to give them hay, not just fresh grass. There are risks involved with giving your rabbit fresh grass. For instance, there could be pesticides, car exhaust, or other toxins on the grass. There could also be parasites on the grass, which can be left behind by other animals when they defecate on the grass. (Even if the feces is removed or washed away, the parasites could remain).

What professions are licensed to give injections?

IN ORDER TO give someone an injection, you must be a doctor, nurse practioner (R.N. with further education), an LPN (licenced practical nurse), or an R.N. (registered nurse). If you are a child or an adult with a particular need for injections (diabetes, cancer etc.) a nurse can instruct you how, and you can give them to yourself. ALSO, trained medical personnel, like an EMT in an ambulance can give injections and start I.V.'s.

Do rabbits need another rabbits company?

Our Rabbit loves other rabbits but not all rabbits are friendly!! We let an albino play with her and the albino went crazy and scratched our little gal. She lives in her kennel alone and we take her out to play twice a day. She loves the exercise and temporary freedom of romping through the grass or snow! Hope this helps.
