There is a hex shaped piece that sticks out below the clutch. Hold the inner part with a wrench and loosen the outer part. Oil should run out from a hole on the bottom of the piece. If not, the hole could be plugged or the oil is low. Check this with the tractor on level ground.

To change the oil filter on a John Deere B, first, ensure the engine is cool and secure the tractor on a flat surface. Locate the oil filter, typically found near the engine, and use an oil filter wrench to unscrew it. Before installing the new filter, apply a bit of clean oil to the rubber gasket on the new filter, then screw it on by hand until snug. Finally, refill the engine oil if necessary and run the engine briefly to check for leaks.

To add oil to a John Deere B tractor, locate the oil filler cap, which is typically situated on the engine block. Remove the cap and use a funnel to pour in the appropriate type and amount of oil, as specified in the operator's manual. After adding oil, check the dipstick to ensure the level is within the recommended range before replacing the cap. Always consult the manual for specific instructions and oil specifications.

The first tractor with the John Deere name on it was the Dain model, which wasn't very successful. It was manufactured in 1918. Between 1918 and 1923 the tractors were manufactured under the Waterloo Boy name that was already being used by a company they purchased, In 1923 they began manufacturing the John Deere Model D. They were all manufactured in Illinois.
There were about 298175 made from the years 1935-1952.
