First, show them how responsible you are. Do your chores, practice your sports or music, earn good grades on homework or a test, and if you have other pets, be sure to take care of them properly.

Second, research, research, research. Spend a Saturday on the internet or reading a book about what you want. Write reports and take notes, and casually leave them around. When your parents ask you what it's for, say "Well, I've been doing a lot of thinking lately, and what I really want is..."

Third, save your money. Calculate exactly how much you'll need, and save save save! At dinner or during a car ride, say "I've been saving my money, and guess how much I have now?" when they ask what you've been saving for, answer them, "A (so-and-so)! When are you taking me to get it?"

Fourth, make posters and PowerPoints describing what you want, why you want it, what you have done and will do to get it. Point out the good and bad things, and solutions for the bad things.

Fifth, write down "guilt-facts" on small slips of paper, and leave them where your parents will find them, such as the bathroom counter, near the coffee, on their desks, etc. Put things such as "i need to learn responsibility for my future, and you are holding me back!" or "1,000,000 guinea pigs get put to sleep a year becuase nobody wants them. if we don't get one, that's like murdur!"

Sixth, hint. let your parents hear you talking to a friend or sibling about how much you want a guinea pig. on a boring day, say "(sigh) if i had a guinea pig right now, I wouldn't be so bored!" at dinner or during a car ride, "I have even more money saved up in my (so-and-so) fund! I have (so-and-so) dollars now!"

Hope this helped!
