At first, horse riding was all about necessity and hunting for the prehistoric, primitive people. They didn't have any tack (equipment) and their knowledge of the care-taking of horses was basic so the horses didn't last very long.
Horse-riding became more about long-distance transport and cart-pulling in later years. Horses were often used in war because of their brave and loyal nature. Only the aristocracy had well-bred horses and the rest were owned by lowly tramps, like cart-horses. Mainly male adults rode and they used horses for hunting for entertainment.
Horses were then used in farming but they weren't much ridden for this.
Nowadays, horse-riding is both a leisure activity that is popular among young children and adults, and in many cases girls ride more than boys, and an art from (i.e. dressage). It is also fiercely competitive, with horse-racing being a popular sport, and the police use horses as well (i.e. mounties). Horses are also used for hunting, but nowadays hunts are more for entertainment and less about animal killing.
Hope this helped!

It has gone from horse-powered to engine-based vehicles.
not unless you are riding the horse, but i would suggest not to over work the horse, and to clean the horse once you have finished riding and taking off all tack, and to let it have a break.

The hoarse horse was unable to neigh. The horse riding instructor was hoarse by the time the lesson was over.
, I have owned horses for over 18 years. When I first purchase a new horse, and bring him to his new home I would let him/her get adjusted to their new surroundings for a day or two. Remember you have to get acquainted with your new horse also. When I moved my first horse to a different barn, I had owned him for over 8 years and knew him well, I put on his saddle and took him on a tour of his new home. It all depends on the horse, and your riding skills. Enjoy !!

The way to get a horse used to hacking out ( or in America-trail riding) is by doing it day in day out. The horse learns to accept things by doing them over and over and OVER again esp. a young horse. A horse learns best through repetition.
