"about 60% of dog homocides are due to pit bulls and rottweilers. I cant give a specific number cuz it always changes but i hope that helps a little."
There are no facts to back this statement up. He states "I cant give a specific number cuz it always changes" which translates into that he's making it up.
This is a direct result of the idiocy that the media likes to play in to.
This comes from an article posted by the Centers for Disease Control:
Conclusions-Although fatal attacks on humans appear to be a breed-specific problem (pit bull-type dogs and Rottweilers), other breeds may bite and cause fatalities at higher rates.
It is also most unfortunate that people generalize a "pit bull" as a breed, when it's not recognized as a breed, as per the AKC. "Pit Bulls" are a general term used to describe any of several breeds of dog. All of the breeds share a similar history, with origins rooted from the bulldog and a variety of terriers. (wikipedia) They are used to describe a short hair, stocky, but muscular, and aggressive dog.
The only aggressive dog is one that has been abused and mistreated. I have, in all honesty, been subjected to more aggressive Chihuahuas and other small dogs because they have not been socialized properly.
My two American Pit Bull Terriers are the best behaved dogs I have ever owned in my life and it is my goal to try and help divert the community of the lack of knowledge because the media likes to play into the fears of people and reinforce negative information, none of which may be fully truthful anyway.
Next time you hear about a mauling involving a so-called "pit bull", try and figure out if the person was instigating the behavior or if the dog had a horrible owner who left him tied to a tree all day, or if the person entered the dog's territory, unwarranted.
Just remember: 5 (yes, five) children die, on average, every day from child abuse more so than "pit bull attacks" that are mostly unknown breeds. Those kids aren't in the media, but the dog is? Where's the logic? I posted the link in the box below,
