There is no way to know for sure how SIV (Simian Immunodeficiency Virus [simian being another word for primate]) mutated to become HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus). What is known is that since humans are very closely related to primates that the mutation wouldn't have been very hard for the virus to undergo. The most widely accepted theory is a hunter or bush-meat vendor contracted the virus while skinning a primate carcass and cut themselves or had an existing cut on their hand. Again, this is just a theory, but it seems to be the most likely way it happened, since blood contact can also transfer the virus, not just ejaculate and vaginal secretions.
