Leptospirosis is dangerous for any dog! Many strands are also contagious to humans and other pets too. Get your dog to a vet for blood work before his liver and/or kidneys are affected. Make sure to isolate him from other animals and wear gloves when handling him. The vet should also run a lepto-titer. But be aware that a titer may test negative for 10-14 days after infected. Depending on the severity of the animal's condition, it may need iv therapy with antibiotics to treat. Our shih-tzu was hospitalized for a week, it was very pricey but he survived. Over the course of 48 hours, he stopped eating and wouldn't get up. It came on really fast and he was a very sick little dog for quite a while. Good Luck!!
