Not really, the heeler is the person who ropes the calfs hind leg in team roping. The person who ropes the neck is the header.
Team roping is an event in a rodeo or just a "Team Roping" that consists of a header and a heeler. Jace McDaniel is the best heeler =) my brother.
A roping horse has the job of running after the cow or steer keeping in the perfect position for the rider/riders to lasso the steer's horns. This can be done with a single horse/rider or 2 horse/rider teams known as team roping or more commonly 'heading and heeling'. With the 2 horse/rider teams, and the reason it's called 'heading and heeling' the steer comes out of the chute followed by the first horse/rider and then the delayed follow by the 2nd team. The first rider has to catch the horns (heading). Within a couple of seconds the 2nd rider has to rope at least one hind leg (heeling). The horses have to be as well trained as the ropers themselves and it is a difficult and demanding sport. But it is so much fun to watch. Like with most things, the horse/rider teams that are really good make it look easy.
To improve your heeling as a left-handed team roper, focus on your positioning and rope handling. Ensure you're properly aligned with your horse to maintain balance and control as you approach the steer. Practice your swing and timing to ensure your loop lands accurately around the steer’s hind legs. Regularly working with a partner can also help refine your skills and build confidence in your technique.
Certain roping competitions like calf roping, team roping, team penning and wild cow milking do involve catching cows (in the colloquial sense) ata rodeo.
Yes, there are coed team roping teams, where both male and female ropers compete together. This format allows for a diverse range of skills and strengths, contributing to the dynamics of the team. Many rodeos and roping events encourage mixed-gender participation, promoting inclusivity in the sport. Coed teams can be a fun and competitive way to engage in team roping.

Charro Mexican saddles are traditionally designed for a variety of equestrian activities, including ranch work and pleasure riding, but they are not specifically optimized for team roping. While they can be used for team roping, their design may lack certain features found in specialized roping saddles, such as a horn for dallying and a more secure seat for quick movements. Therefore, while it's possible to use a Charro saddle for team roping, it may not provide the best performance or comfort compared to saddles specifically designed for that purpose.
