Not really because most folks put bleach tabs or some type of disinfectant in the toilet. Just keep the lid down on your toilet bowls. If there is no bleach or any other type of disinfectant in the toilet bowl then I would not worry. Why not give your dog a nice large clean bowl full of fresh water so he can drink out of that instead. Be sure to give fresh water in the bowl daily.

Another consideration:"Toilet water" is just tap water, so it can be tempting to allow your dog access to it and "save yourself some trouble," but it's a bad idea. Even if you don't use any chemical additives in your toilet, dogs aren't very discriminating...and most won't hesitate to take a drink even if someone forgot to flush.

Why does toilet water taste so good?

That is an opinion, not a fact. There is not a reliable answer for the question because, for one thing, not many have tasted toilet water. If you have, and you have the opinion of it being great, then there is no question needed to be asked. Toilet water is clean enough, but the toilet bowl may not be. The water tank may also not be sanitary. Because of this, humans are not recommended to even try. Related yet off-topic fact, if you inquire: Dogs have been rumored to love drinking out of the toilet, although this is rare in dogs and they only do so because their owner has forgotten/neglected to give the dog water. They drink out of this when in dire thirst because it is, in most cases, level, but another reason may just be out of curiosity.

Why do dogs drink out of the toilet and is it safe to let them?

Dogs consider the toilet an incredible, spring-fed porcelain fountain. From a dog's point of view, toilet water is better because it's fresher, cooler and hasn't been standing around in a little bowl for hours and hours. It's magically changed, refreshed, renewed with every push of the handle. The water stays cooler longer because of the porcelain container, and because the larger surface area of a toilet bowl leads to greater evaporation. And toilets are made of material that doesn't alter the taste of water the way metal or plastic can. Given the choice, wouldn't you rather drink from a fresh mountain stream rather than a brackish pond? Still, experts recommend that dogs do not drink from the toilet, because the bowl may contain the residue of harmful cleaning chemicals and other unmentionables.
