What type oil does John Deere 185 (1988 year model) hydro transmission use? I got 3 different answers from JD dealers. Thanks Jim
It will fit according to John Deere Attachment Fit Guide

The John Deere Hydro 185 transaxle typically uses John Deere Hy-Gard fluid or an equivalent hydraulic fluid that meets JDM J20C specifications. The recommended capacity for the transaxle is approximately 5 quarts. Always check the owner's manual or consult with a dealer for the most accurate information regarding fluid specifications and maintenance.

To remove a wheel from a John Deere Hydro 185, first, ensure the mower is on a flat surface and the engine is off. Loosen the lug nuts using a wrench, then elevate the tractor with a jack to relieve weight from the wheel. Once lifted, completely remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel. If necessary, use a rubber mallet to gently tap the wheel to loosen it from the hub.
Lift up the seat. The black screw cap is the filler port, the rubber tube that extends down from it is the dipstick.
