This is a popular misconception. Dogs such as golden retrievers actually have something called a double coat. It is designed to help the do regulate their body temperature. The undercoat works with the top coat to keep the dog cooler when the weather is warm. Shaving them down messes up their own natural cooling system. Too help them with heat, it is more important to keep the dog clean and brushed, and to be sure there is always a fresh water supply.

Sledge dogs are naturally adapted to cold weather. They are generally the breeds (Huskies, Malamutes) that have very thick fur, and are very strong, and can deal with the extremes of ice and snow. Sled dogs are also well-trained.
like all dogs they do need to come in but they have thick coats and they get frisky in cold weather
Yes, dogs can benefit from wearing clothes in cold weather to help protect them from the elements and maintain their body heat.
Dogs can keep warm in cold weather because of their fur is thick, or their owners put coatrs on them.
No. No breeds of dogs should stay outside. The weather and seclusion is physically and mentally hard on a dog.
Thick fur coats in dogs usually means they were developed in a cold climate, where a thick coat would be essential to keeping warm.
I think it does in desert or hot areas, no so much in hot humid weather. You can get your dog a trim for summer, just a lite trim, some get there dogs shaved, but then again, with a shave beware of sunburn.
No. Dogs can tell what the weather will be before humans can, though.
in which weather dogs can live?
I have a neighbor that shved his pug in the middle of winter and the pug died of hyperthermia. Please caution when shaving animals. Some people do it because of allergys. However, If this is the case please ask you vet. Their are rx's to help the dandruff. Please don't shave dogs un- appriapate matter. It seems cruel and they are helpless. There are certain breeds of dogs that should not be shaved and your German Shepherd is one of them. If you got the dog from the ASPCA and the dog has a lot of mats they will often shave the dog close to the skin. If your groomer did it or you did it .... shame! I have a Bichon Frise that has very curly hair like sheeps wool and I just had her shaved down (but not right to the skin) or else she gets very hot. It's late spring where I live and the weather is warmer. The above poster is correct in saying that dogs should never be shaved close during winter months. It might make his life cooler now that summer is here, but remember, dogs have their natural coats for a reason. When you remove their coats you have to watch them in the sun. They can be overheated and become sun burned just like humans.
