err....disadvantages, many. I just watched helplessly as my 4 year old gorgeous doe died after many spasms and growns, leaving behind her ten week old litter of nine. Then, one by one they met their deaths also - whats natural about this???? Also the vaccine is made from the base livers of infected rabbits, so rabbits are killed in order for others to be saved. No sense. I paid $200 for a vet home visit and 6 immunisations , of which two died since - and its recommended to be repeated every year.
What I have Learnt? EVERYONE NEEDS INSECT PROOF RABBIT CAGES. This did not occur NATURALLY....That virus was planted at some stage by someone and it's not fair that they get away with it.
Rabbit calicivirus disease can help control rabbit populations in regions where they are considered pests. It also has a high mortality rate in infected rabbits, making it an effective method of reducing rabbit numbers. Additionally, it is relatively easy to administer the vaccine to protect domestic rabbits from the disease.
The Rabbit plague was in Australia and the disease was known as "Calicivirus Disease."
To reduce the rabbit population
A calicivirus is any virus of the family Caliciviridae - positive-sense, single-stranded RNA viruses.
Rabbit Calicivirus Disease cannot yet be grown in the laboratory, the RHD vaccine is made from a base of livers taken from deliberately infected rabbits in Spain. This is morally and ethically very hard to accept for true animal lovers that another animal dies to make the vaccine to save their own.
calicivirus is a desease only a cat can get, usally kittens or older cats. humans cannot get it
yes
Calicivirus is a disease that causes illness in cats. It causes upper respiratory infections, with fever, nasal congestion, conjunctivitis, oral ulcers, or sneezing. Some strains can cause pneumonia, arthritis, or severe multi-organ disease.
Calicivirus is a family of viruses that primarily affect animals, but humans can be affected by certain types, most notably Norovirus, which is a member of the Caliciviridae family. Norovirus is a common cause of gastroenteritis in humans, leading to symptoms like vomiting and diarrhea. Other calicivirus strains primarily infect animals, such as the feline calicivirus, which does not infect humans. Therefore, while humans can contract a form of calicivirus, it is mainly through Norovirus and not from other animal-specific strains.
