• Shih Tzus can be good dogs with proper medical care and discipline. They are prone to dental diseases (such as retained baby teeth) as well as eye problems and some forms of cancer. Because first time owners often display a tendency to treat this dog like a baby which can lead to dominance issues, they are instead recommended for veteran dog owners. They have a comparatively long lifespan of up to 14 years, but only with regular vet care. They are smart dogs that can become manipulative if they don't have a strong owner. Shih Tzus require A LOT of grooming, so be prepared to pay top dollar for a groomer or learn yourself.
• Shih Tzus are super sweet! They are very friendly, love attention and love to be played with. They are known for their energy, but also can be very calm. They are also very cute.

• They can get along with both adults and children. They may tend to have sensitive skin but nothing that can't be controlled easily.

• Shih Tzus do not shed, which is great for people who may have Allergies. They are extremely sweet and easy to train. Shih Tzus do tend to have allergies, but these are easily controlled. They also require regular grooming. I highly recommend a Shih Tzu to anyone looking for a loving companion.

• I have one and they are the nicest dogs, never shed, smart, usually pretty calm compared to other toy breed dogs. One of the best breeds out there.

• I have three and I love them very much! They are really sweet and lovable; especially good for little kids but you do have to raise them right and treat them nicely so they grow up to be nice!

• I love Shih Tzus! They are so cute and really friendly and when it comes to protection you are in great luck. They are sometimes energetic they do love attention so try not to spoil them doesn't matter how cute they are. They take an extremely long time to clean up they have extra long hair and yet a unique looking face. For exercise they may not need as much as a larger dog, but it depends on how the temperament is and they do have a good temperament and are very friendly very independent and sometimes are calm. They are great with kids and other family.
• A reason it may not be convenient to have a Shih Tzu, is because of the barking. If you have a baby at home, it may disrupt their sleeping.
• I just bought my first Shih Tzu puppy yesterday and i love her already, she is only 7 and a half weeks old but she is so placid, Shih Tzus are also good for people with allergies and Asthma as they don't shed fur much.
• Very nice little dog breed with a uniqueness to them unlike any I've encountered. It takes them a long time to find a spot to do their business. They have a sharp dislike of thunder and noise. They do shed as seasons change but have no odor to their coat, as in dog smell. They are very family orientated and love a walk in the bush. They are alert and a keen sense dog.

I can tell you now, shih tzus are the most amazing dogs. i brought a shih tzu a year and a half ago and it was the best move i ever made. They are very Intelligent and they do not shed fur, this means, if you want to have it short, it must be cut regulary. they also do not need as much walking as other dogs, though i do advise about half an hour every day :) they are very loving dogs and have a great personality. they are very easy to train and just want to please the owner. Shih tzu's are very smart!! They do need to be trained as soon as possible (preferably as a puppy) and they love to please their owners. My shih-tzu was very easy to train to sit, lie down, play dead, bark on command, dance, and shake her paw but it does take some patience and alot of treats! I brush her every day to keep the matts out of her fur and ears and wipe under her eyes with a damp cloth to get rid of any "gunk" that gets under them. Also they should be groomed every 4-6 weeks. My dog, Lizzy, loves walks but she does get kind of hot if shes outside over about 10 minutes in hot weather which is normal for a shih-tzu. Mostly they just loved their bellies rubbed, and lots of love and attention. Shih-tzus can be lap dogs when you want them to but active dogs also! They are protective and alert as well, my dog always barks a couple of times when someone is at the door or in the driveway. Shih-tzus are terrific pets!

I have a little shih Tzu she is 6 years old and she is the most friendlyest dog i ever seen in my life!She never Growled or bit anyone iin her life....she is really sooky and good around kids!

Chihuahuas are very cute.

They do get fresh sometimes.

They are not well suited as a child's pet though, because they tend to bite..........

Yes!!:). Small dogs are great for small homes. Make sure you get one as a puppy so it can adjust to it's surrounding!!:)
