Armadillos are actually eaten in Latin America. To avoid grossing people out, they are sometimes called turkeys. They were also eaten during the Great Depression in the U.S. Their skin is used for purses, belts and other purposes, and, oddly, they are one of the only animals that can transmit leprosy -- so they are used in science labs to experiments.
