Well, if you change a letter from "dog," you get "dig." And what do dogs like to do in the dirt? You guessed it, they like to dig! Dogs are very clever, loyal, comforting creatures. Humans have dogs for many reasons: studies show that dogs lower risks of heart attacks and other illnesses; people that have had a pet dog as a child are 79.9% less likely to have allergies; they help to comfort; they love you for whoever you are and they don't care what you look like unlike humans. many hospitals have dogs in the wards to cheer patients up. When I hear stories of cruelty of dogs I don't understand the sick minds of some. I want to get the message accross to EVERYONE that dogs are LOVING creatures and are not to be treated like dirt. Some dogs eat dirt because their bodies tell them to. This can be because of a mineral deficiency (not just iron) that is somehow improved by consuming dirt off the ground. Unless the dirt is contaminated by something harmful to the animal, this practice of eating dirt may actually be good for them. If this is the reason your dog is eating dirt, it may be remedied by giving them the missing nutrients as supplements. There are a variety of vitamins and minerals available at pet stores that may replace the dirt as a means of getting what the dog's body needs. Look for natural WHOLE food sources.
