They are different species.
Species are defined as animals that cannot produce offspring with each other.
no a degu is its own species they are from the same family though Answer: Yes a degu is it's own species :) But they act like a chincilla but look a bit like a gerbil or a squirrel :D lol A degu is not a mix of a rat and a chinchilla but they are in the chinchilla family. I think that degus look like squirrels but smaller and without a bushy tail.
It depends on the breed of dog. Larger breeds will probably just ignore a gerbil, but smaller breeds, ie rat terriers and some others may hunt a small animal like a gerbil because they were originally bred to hunt rats.
ALMONDS! Its definitely a first class choice for you gerbil, when I had mine I always gave him a gerbil food mix and he always went for the almonds first! But they eat bits of walnut, sunflower seeds and raisins! Oh! And if your gerbil has been good, a bit of pasta with butter or buttered toast! They cant resist that!
Its a chemical that anything that injest it will have mix master in there D.N.A then the next animal that eats that animal will both the animals D.N.Aand the mix master in there D.N.A
It will not harm your gerbil, if you give it an empty toilet roll tube. It will probbly go in and out of it for a while, and move it around it's cage; It will then chew it up into small pieces, to mix in with it's bedding.
A gerbil on it's own is a species, that of rodent. All animals of the same major family classifacation (EX rodent) can mate. However this can be dangerous.
