I am no vet but I do not believe this is the reason of death. Because guinea pigs just like hamsters are allowed to eat vegetables and fruit. Although not feeding your guinea pig its proper food might have caused it to become sick and have a different problem and eventualy die. What I sugest is to call your guinea pigs vet and ask a professional. I'm very sorry about your loss. I am, probably like you, very attached to my pets and hate it when they pass away.
