A hippo pod refers to a group of hippos, typically consisting of around 10 to 30 individuals, although larger pods can sometimes form. These social animals often gather in water bodies during the day to stay cool and avoid sun exposure, as they have sensitive skin. Hippos are known to be territorial, especially males, and the pod structure helps them protect their young and maintain social bonds.
Hippos usually live in a pod (group of two or more), though sometimes they get left behind, or are cast out of the pod. If a hippopotamus lives alone, it will at least meet up in mating season
